Making Waves With Fishing-Nets Turned Skatboards

Discarded fishing gear accounts for an estimated 10% of the ocean’s plastic pollution. The three founders of bureo, all surfers and skateboarders, try to raise awareness about this global problem by turning old fishing nets into strong and durable skateboards. Their recycling program “Net Positiva” in Chile, a country with a vast fishing industry, collects the plastic and sends it to the bureo facility in Santiago, where it gets cleaned, shredded, molten and turned into small pellets, which are then pressed into skateboards. Hats up to bureo for having created this innovative and inspiring product.
