The Magical Broom Chairs
Philippe Starck & Emeco are the designers of these stylish yet responsibly created chairs made from 90% waste. They are called the Broom chairs because they are derived from wood fibre that would normally be swept into the trash, mixed together with waste polypropylene taken directly from plastic producers worksites. They are synthetic chairs with the spirit of wood. In the words of the designers: “Imagine a guy who takes a humble broom and starts to clean the workshop and wi

Glasses Made From Ocean Plastics
These glasses by the company Karün are created out of old ocean plastics collected on the coast of Chile. They are made out of 100% recycled materials, without any unnatural dies or colour coatings. The glasses are crafted in Italy, are high-quality and incredibly flexible and resistant. Karün teamed up with the designers of bureo, who design skateboards out of discarded fishing nets. Together they pioneer a movement called Net Positiva, a net-collection recycling program in

Flip Furniture - Sustainable By Design
By flipping and stacking the different components of these stools and tables into various heights, shapes and colours, the designers from MIO have introduced a great way of customising ones furniture so as to fit the needs of ones personal space. The steel bases are made from recycled steel and powder coated with a finish that is environmentally friendly. The tops are sourced from locally and responsibly harvested wood. By using recycled and recyclable materials the company w

In The Spirit Of Recycling Polyester
The designers from Millican have resorted to using only 100% recycled polyester for the lining of their outdoor bag collections. Unlike virgin polyester, which is an energy-hungry, unsustainable synthetic fibre, recycled polyester uses PET plastic bottles as the raw material. In this process PET bottles are crushed, heated and passed through a spinneret to create yarn. After that it is passed through a crimping machine to give it a fluffy and wooly texture and later baled, dy

The Clean-Consciouse Lamps
Willem Heeffer is the designer of the collection of these retro-industrial lamps which are made from recycled washing machine drums. They are sourced from local recycling centres, handcrafted and colour coated with retro-candy colours in his studio in Helsinki, Finland. Also featuring a line of old boiler and Heinz Beanz lamps, Heeffer pioneers the art of putting old products long considered trash out of their context and turning them into new design pieces. #repurposed #recy

Boyd Gives A Second Life To Old Sailcloth
Recycling, repurposing and reusing stands at the core of the Boyd Sailcloth Line. Just like the founder’s grandfather, Willis Boyd, already did in the 1950’s during his years as a designer and builder of custom sailboards, so does his grandson now look for lost treasures in boat yards and wear houses to turn old material into something new. The totes and bags are 100% recycled sailcloth and are born to stand against any wind and weather. #industrialwaste #repurposed #ecoconsc

Making Waves With Fishing-Nets Turned Skatboards
Discarded fishing gear accounts for an estimated 10% of the ocean’s plastic pollution. The three founders of bureo, all surfers and skateboarders, try to raise awareness about this global problem by turning old fishing nets into strong and durable skateboards. Their recycling program “Net Positiva” in Chile, a country with a vast fishing industry, collects the plastic and sends it to the bureo facility in Santiago, where it gets cleaned, shredded, molten and turned into small

The Eco Sustainable Bee Hive Shelf
Based on the shape of a bee hive, the fine lines of the distinct geometry of these shelves makes them surprisingly durable. Designed by Ruche, the shelves are made from recycled factory refined cardboard or recycled aluminium, both of which are very lightweight and resistant. In order to assemble the shelves, you neither need screws, glue, nails, or anything else. All the parts perfectly slide together into an isostatic structure, which, like the bee hive, makes it so strong.
